A Heap of Anime Updates Landed Over the Holidays

The winter break present a wealth of activities far superior than scanning the updates: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to not yelling at relatives. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy news items surfaced during the holidays, and should you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)

Without a doubt the biggest piece of news, the notorious disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a good sign. Yet, the promotional image for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, nowadays, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has yet to be revealed.
