A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
