President Trump Calls Families of Attacked Guard Personnel to White House
President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed the press. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Community members gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral details for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The tragedy prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and halt granting entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
