The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure by Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.
This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be among these.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
