The teenager has featured in seven games for the Spanish giants, including five starts.

When an 18-year-old creates club a historic moment in a crucial Champions League match against City, it naturally attracts acclaim and attention.

During his maiden start in the competition - and fifth appearance for the club - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the fifteen-time European champions secured a three-nil round of 16 first leg lead at the Bernabeu.

The teenager, who also made his club debut in the play-off round a month ago with a substitute appearance at Sporting Lisbon, then helped the Madrid side defeat the English champions in Tuesday's return to confirm a last eight berth.

At 18 years and 226 days, the midfielder became the club's youngest player to start twice in the Champions League knockout stages, surpassing Brazil forward Vini Jr's record by 10 days.

Rapid Ascent From The Academy

The midfielder is the most recent to emerge from the famed youth system and is rapidly cementing himself as one of Alvaro Arbeloa's most exciting young players.

He joined Real from Leganes in the summer of 2023, having previously been with Atletico Madrid and Getafe academies, and starting out for the Juvenil C team, where he rapidly created a positive impact.

He worked his way up to the reserve side and it was during a pre-season game in which they played against the senior squad, then coached by Arbeloa, where the teenager is said to have caught the attention of the current Real boss, who took over from Xabi Alonso in the new year.

Spanish media would later describe the moment as "love at first sight," adding Pitarch stood out not only for his technical ability, but for the energy, character and determination he added to the team.

'His Best Attribute Is His Personality'

During the pre-season of 2025, former boss Xabi Alonso called up the youngster to practice with the senior squad and gave him playing time during the warm-up matches.

Yet, it was Arbeloa's appointment that became the defining moment in his career as he came on as a late substitute in each leg against Benfica that set up the clash with Manchester City.

"I've dreamed of this every night before going to bed, the first day I started playing the game, every day you head to training and each day you play a match," stated the player following his debut.

"I have just achieved my dream with the best team in the world and in the best competition."

Given a starting debut in the Spanish league against Getafe - where he was for four years after arriving from Atletico in 2018 - he has retained his spot for the following four as injuries to Jude Bellingham and Ceballos created an opening.

The teenager has seized it with displays that have defied his youth and experience.

"He's a extremely fast player, and you can see his capabilities," remarked Arbeloa. "He's extremely energetic, with great stamina, effort and movement."

Pitarch's mentality has also stood out to his coach.

"His greatest quality is his personality," continued Arbeloa. "He constantly demands the possession, and even under pressure, he remains unfazed.

"I understand fans might be surprised to watch him start in a European fixture, but he's playing because I had complete trust in him to do his normal game.

"Thiago will keep receiving chances with the first team. It is delightful to coach a player like him."

A Future International Decision

Born in a Madrid suburb, in the Spanish capital's community, and was raised deeply involved in the local game, progressing through youth setups before entering Real Madrid's renowned youth academy.

He possesses dual Moroccan and Spanish citizenship, giving him the option to play for both nations at senior international level.

Under international regulations, players may appear for different countries at youth level without being locked in, with the final decision only binding once they play in a official full international.

Pitarch has featured for the Spanish national team at youth level, turning out for both the under-19 and under-20 teams, and took part in the 2025 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, where Spain made it to the last eight.

Despite this, he has not yet decided to either senior national team, who are watching his progress with interest.

Speaking recently, Pitarch confirmed: "I haven't made my final decision yet. Things are great with the Spanish federation, but I'll make a decision soon."

This scenario echoes that of other dual nationality players such as Real team-mate Brahim Diaz and Barca star Lamine Yamal. While 18-year-old Lamine chose Spain, Diaz opted to represent the Atlas Lions.

Focus on the Future

At present, his attention is on establishing himself in the Real side and rewarding his manager's belief.

He played over an hour in the two-one win at the Etihad, which sealed a 5-1 overall triumph and a last-eight tie with Bayern Munich.

He was replaced by another academy player in Manuel Angel underscored Arbeloa's trust in the next generation to aid the club chase future success.

After his impressive impact so far on European football's biggest stage, Pitarch is tipped to be a central figure in that.

"The manager handles me the same. We handle it very naturally. I try not to think about it too much - I must earn my playing time on the field," he commented following the win at Etihad Stadium.
