UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several human souls within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her reside four separate souls, all possessing their own fears and drives. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes show the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic involves controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist in succession. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their necks are. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is available to follow on platforms.
